If you live in anywhere in Bellevue, chances are you would be impacted. If you are already concerned about Redmond Silver Cloud and Kirkland La Quinta Inn & Suites , these amount to nothing yet compared to what city of Bellevue plans to offer to its own residents. Bellevue Planning Commission is planning to change the zoning code to allow homeless shelters IN ALL SINGLE FAMILY NEIGHBORHOODS. This LUCA change proposal Supportive Housing and Emergency Shelter LUCA tells all.

Planning Commission Meeting – Wednesday February 23, 2022 – 6:30 p.m.

This is no longer just an issue with one area or two, it’s becoming a common issue across eastside cities. Please spread the words out to your families, friends and coworkers, post to social media. All concerned residents are welcome to Join Us – Safe Eastside .

By the way, please think twice next time when you get to vote on any tax or levies, do you really want to give the government any more of your money ? Sure the ballot titles would always look lofty, shiny and appealing. Think about what the government has been doing with our tax money. Snatching up hotels and soon single family houses around yours would be just a piece of cake if Bellevue’s plan goes ahead and even gets replicated in other cities. All in the name of trying to “solve” Seattle’s failure.

Do something to stop it

his is actually a Public Hearing. Comments will be taken after Staff presentations. Email Your input to planningcommission@bellevuewa.gov so they hear you before and during the meeting. Be sure to give a doable solution, i.e. require a Conditional Use Permit for every Supportive Housing application, require Good Neighbor Agreement Committee like Homeless Services Uses Land Use Code 20.20.455, require similar operating procedures as included in the Homeless Services Uses Land Use Code 20.20.455 https://bellevue.municipal.codes/LUC/20.20.455. Please look up the HSU and determine which 2 or 3 guidelines would work. This is State Mandated, so it will pass. Also, there is already an Interim Official Control in place that expires in June; Planning Commission doesn’t have any urgency to approve it right now. Ask for PC to research applying the HSU to the LUCA. Also, ask about research into what other jurisdictions have done to comply with State Law. The idea of breaking the single-family neighborhood culture in Bellevue did not come overnight.
The latest push under guise of allowing homeless shelters in the midst of single-family zoning is just that, the guise.
There is a Big money behind all these efforts.
What is at stake it’s the American way of life, the American dream of having a house with a yard, security, privacy, being a good neighbor and having a good one next door.
Majority of Bellevue homeowners are middle class hardworking people. Their houses are their biggest investment in their lives.
This proposal is to sacrifice the middle-class dreams and aspirations at the altar of big business and social justice warriors.

What solutions are there for the most in need part of our community?
What solution is there besides this?
We are all vulnerable to the horrific challenge of being homeless.
Let’s solve this issue humanely.

Who wants to see East side becoming like Seattle? Nobody. We say NO to crimes, no to drug addicts, which leads to NO Homeless and NO shelters.
It’s easy to understand.

I am all for supporting low income families and individuals but we cannot build our way out of homeless crisis. Unless I heard sound proposals to address the drug addiction and to ensure the safety of our children and neighborhood at the same time, I cannot support and homeless shelter in my neighborhood. Don’t Seattle my Bellevue!

    Beth Swanson · February 16, 2022 at 2:22 pm

Well said Mr Benjamin Sun; I agree fully. Yes of course, help the poor/those working below the poverty line. Sadly these are not the ones moving in; drug addicts have already received the keys to the city of Seattle. EASTSIDE: do not welcome them with open arms to our neighborhoods too! My own daughter struggled in the past with addictions and chose homelessness for a time, and I as her own parent did not condone/support the city’s encouragement of her lifestyle. This is classic Enabling and helps NO ONE! Why do cities continue to prioritize these ‘takers’ over the actual tax-paying, hard-working, rule-following citizens?!?!
