I against the purchase of La Quinta Inn, but if you are protesting with the “false info” /misinformation then it won’t be effective.
King County emphasizes that this health for housing would not allow drug and the applicants need to pass background check, no illegal activity is allowed.
What we need is transparency and also strict safety guideline in place before the purchase. King County should not rush to close deal without conversation with the community.

Thank you Eva for contacting us and providing feedback.
Where did you get the idea that “this health for housing would not allow drug and the applicants need to pass background check, no illegal activity is allowed.”, source please. According to King-County-Health-Through-Housing-FAQ (redmond.gov) at https://www.redmond.gov/DocumentCenter/View/19958/King-County-Health-Through-Housing-FAQ , please read and see if drug use is allowed.

Q: Will drug and/or alcohol use be permitted in the individual units?
A: Providers will use a harm reduction approach, within which drug and/or alcohol use will be permitted in individual units. Staff will provide supportive services to promote housing stability and will work with residents that have substance use disorders in-house and also connect them to resources in the community. Staff working in a harm reduction setting work in partnership with tenants,…

    Hope it helps
    Thanks

Hi, which side of the La Quinta will the protest be? Will it be right where cars turn in to the parking lot from Northup? I want to make sure I park close.

Twisha Twisha · February 9, 2022 at 11:13 am

The increase in crime in Seattle is terrifying and we can always help the homeless by giving them shelters on the outskirts but by allowing people who may potentially be intoxicated or maybe sex offenders or ex convicts we are endangering many children as dayacres and schools are round the corner.

The turnout was great to show the wide-spread support for this project, awesome way to spend my lunch and even got interviewed!

ZXZFSF · February 11, 2022 at 8:02 pm

I find it interesting that students @ EPS seem to take almost no issue with this project. Some even see it as a positive change for the community of mostly privileged/wealthy to gain some perspective and empathy.

    Jim · February 14, 2022 at 9:35 am

It’s important to differentiate between you haven’t heard an objection and you know EPS kids don’t have concerns. I have a kid in EPS, and came back home last week telling, quote “I’m really concerned about the future of EPS”. After talking to her, I discovered that many in her friends group have the exact same concerns. kids opinions differ, same as adults, nothing special here. But painting all kids are more or less in line with the project is misleading to the least.

      Bennett Klusman · February 17, 2022 at 10:52 am

And yet directly after this, you say that “virtually no one [will] welcome that deal”. Curious, that seems like you are painting all kids as more or less against the project, It’s a little misleading Jim

        Jim · February 19, 2022 at 3:23 pm

Equating silence to supporting ( which is an assumption) and telling there is virtually no support from known data is different. Logic and data are two powerful tools to use in this world, that those politicians clearly lack of. Care to put up an anonymous vote in EPS to see how many support vs against?

          Bennett Klusman · February 23, 2022 at 11:13 pm

I totally agree Jim, I think we should have an anonymous vote at EPS towards the project. I do think that would be helpful, unfortunately, I am not in control of mail that goes out to the entire school. If you do desire this survey I urge you to email John Stegman (jstegman@eastsideprep.org) with this survey, He is the man who controls what goes out to the school. From the data I have worked with I can tell you that the majority of the senior class of those who responded to the survey was in support to some degree

    Jim · February 14, 2022 at 10:30 am

I can assure you that kids in EPS are very worried about the future of their school. my kids is in EPS, they talked about it among themselves, and virtually no one welcome that deal.

      Bennett · February 16, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Curious. When you say virtually no one will welcome that deal, you are probably referring to your kid’s friend group at EPS. However, as a fellow EPS student, I can tell you that your kid’s assessment is far off base, and actually, a large portion of the students (across grade levels) and staff that I have talked to are in support of the project.

        Jim · February 19, 2022 at 2:03 pm

Please stop trolling this topic, it’s not funny, it’s the future of this great school you are playing with. No, I’m not talking about just her friends group. If you were really EPS student, which I highly doubt, you would know that during earlier this week’s, there is only one person in 12th grade ( on his/her way out of the school) voiced support. All other kids talked among themselves in opposition, few dare spoke out too. You know exactly your opinion is in minority, and harmful to the school that gave you 4 or 8 years of excellent education because lower grades students also came in in batches to make the school work. If this deal goes through, EPS will end to be as we know it, and future enrollment will go way down. This surely won’t impact your life even a bit, but matters to everyone else in the school. So stop falsely represent others in the school.

          Bennett Klusman · February 23, 2022 at 11:09 pm

          1. I’m not trolling you Jimothy
          2. You say I’m not a real EPS student, please ask your daughter to look my name up in epschedule and you will see that I am a current Senior.
          3. There is one person in 12th grade who voiced support, this is true, I’m assuming you are talking about Ben Brundage. A student which was ridiculed by the parents associated with this website, which is just disgusting. The fact that you believe that the majority of 12th grade and the majority of the school is in opposition is laughable. Sure many people have questions, that’s completely normal. But your statement is comedic at best and so out of touch with the EPS community as a whole.
          4. I am in support of this project because I got 4-8 of education at EPS. It’s taught me that at the very minimum we should have empathy for our other humans, something that seems to come difficult to you Safe Eastside Stans.

Jim Bob, Please stop falsely representing the opinion of the student body.

          Rahul · February 24, 2022 at 9:51 am

Respectfully Jim, I don’t think that you have spoken to or heard from many seniors at EPS

Soybean · February 13, 2022 at 11:35 pm

Because of cancel culture, voices against it might get backlash!

    Bennett · February 16, 2022 at 7:30 pm

    Cry harder

      Jim · February 19, 2022 at 2:10 pm

Can’t imagine snobby like you would have the capacity of empathize with any real group that needs help. We don’t cry, not like a wimpy kid, we fight for the justice and safety of our kids.

        Cry Harder Jim Cry Harder

          Jim · March 3, 2022 at 11:57 pm

[reply only here, as your other comments seem to close on reply]… care to tell how you get the data you claimed? Anonymously or not? if you know basic human psychology, you’ll know why it’s drastically different. your critical thinking skills is quite worrisome, Bennet baby. I’m afraid your parents paid high price for your tuition in last few years for nothing, not your critical thinking skills (you have none), not your capacity of empathizing, and not even basic decency. I hope you fly high, since pushing your high school so hard into abysmal on your way out. ( I’ll have to point out for you it’s Newton’s third law, as person with your level of mental capacity would have any ability to understand basic like this). what a great gift you left for your school! enjoy your remaining days in the school, try not to let the door hit you when you are out.

King county has a bad track record. Our community , safety , value , schools could be potentially at risk . It’s not worth the risk. There are other locations not near schools and with closer resources for the homeless than la Quinta

    Rahul · February 17, 2022 at 10:50 am

    What are those locations?

Dan · February 16, 2022 at 10:27 am

Are there any Lawsuits in process against King County ‘health through housing’ Initiative

    Editor · February 16, 2022 at 6:38 pm

not aware of any lawsuit, but please feel free to consult any lawyer of your choice if you’ve got a good standing.

Alix Despard · February 19, 2022 at 3:01 pm

I feel like there are many Kirkland residents that are not aware of the La Quinta homeless hotel. I would be willing to go door to door and drop flyers off at homes in the west of market neighborhood, is there someone in the Safe Eastside organization that could tell me what I can and cannot put in a flyer and is there any money to fund printing these flyers?
